Our Vision
Simple realism
The fundamental message of RealistRevolt is one of realism and hope. We believe it is not only possible, it is imperative to eliminate nuclear weapons.
We believe this not because we are idealists, but because we are realists. It is not realistic to believe that a miraculous technology can guarantee our safety. Realists know that there are no guarantees in life. It is not realism to rely on a weapon to prop up the world order. Realists know that world order is built on law and rules that are fairly enforced. It is not realism to believe that our prosperity is sustained by the threat of annihilation. Despite their constant clamor, apologists for nuclear weapons are not realists, and the rationale for keeping these weapons is not realistic.
How do you get countries to all give up nuclear weapons together? Use realism to break the spell that awe and ambition have cast on the small minority that sets nuclear weapons policy in the United States and other states, and demonstrate that nuclear weapons are clumsy, dangerous, wasteful, virtually useless weapons.
Human beings are made to achieve—to build, to innovate, to make, and to do. But how can we set out to construct a better world with doom hanging over us? Post-apocalyptic fantasies are everywhere in science fiction, video games, movies, TV, and young adult literature. How do we unleash our greatest talents when darkness has insinuated itself deep into our unconscious?
We are looking for partners who are serious and determined; who are realists but at the same time who know that change is possible; partners who have the capacity to hope.
We see a better world. Help us make that world a reality.
